WORKSHOP OVERVIEW
This one-on-one workshop offers a hands-on introduction to a selected historical photographic process, from the history of the process, paper and sensitizing, negative preparation, coating, to exposure and processing, we’ll go through one process start-to-finish. All materials are provided, students need to bring either an analog negative or digital image. Students may select from:

WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES:
Introduce participants to the history and principles of their selected historical process.
Provide hands-on experience in preparing, coating, exposing, and processing prints.
Develop skills in troubleshooting and perfecting prints.
Encourage creative experimentation with the chosen process.
SCHEDULE:
9:00 AM - 9:30 AM: Welcome and Introduction
Brief history of the selected process and its significance.
Overview of the day's agenda.
Safety guidelines and materials overview.
9:30 AM - 10:30 AM: Demonstration of the process
Demonstration of preparing sensitizer.
Demonstration coating paper with the sensitizer. If albumen printing is selected, we will discuss albumenizing in addition to sensitizing.
Explanation of key variables affecting the outcome: humidity, glass rod versus brush, etc
10:30 AM - 12:00 PM: Hands-On Practice: Coating Papers
Participants coat their own papers under guidance.
Troubleshooting common coating issues.
12:00 PM - 1:00 PM: Lunch Break (and paper drying!)
1:00 PM - 2:30 PM: Negative preparation (digital and analog)
Discussion on negative preparation
Scanning and preparing the image for digital negative printing.
Printing the digital negative (or evaluating the analog negative)
2:30 PM - 3:30 PM: Exposing the negative
Setting up UV exposure using the Nuarc 26-1K UV printer
Demonstrating exposure with student negative
2:30 PM - 4:00 PM: Processing the print
Print development and processing.
Discussion of chemical safety and disposal.
Washing and drying prints.
4:00 PM - 5:00 PM: Finishing and Critique
Final presentation and evaluation.
Tips for improving results and next steps for practice.
MATERIALS PROVIDED:
Coating brushes, chemicals, and papers
UV exposure equipment
Safety gear (gloves, aprons)
Coursework and notes
Lab coat
WHAT TO BRING:
Personal negatives (preferably large format), or a digital file (raw format preferred)
Notebook and pen
Comfortable clothing with long sleeve shirt/top and closed toe shoes.

Participants receive a PDF guide with step-by-step instructions.
Suggestions for further practice and reading.
EVALUATION:
Participants will complete a short feedback form at the end of the session.
